Products & Services: Staff Training

Introduction

This page aims to provide the reader with a brief overview of our staff training services.

Staff Training - Legislative Background

Since 1st October 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (“Fire Safety Order”) (for England & Wales) and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 (for Scotland) have been in effect imposing drastic changes to the regulatory regime for fire safety.

Both sets of the legislation above require the legal duty holder (or a third party(ies)) to ensure that fire safety training for all employees is:

  • adequate, suitable and sufficient1;
  • provided to employees on starting2;
  • provided where there are new or increased risks3; and
  • repeated “periodically” where appropriate4.

Additionally, the legislation also requires that competent persons are nominated to “take measures for fire-fighting” and that they are adequately trained5. Persons in these roles are often appropriately trained competent employees and are often referred to as ‘fire marshals’ or ‘fire wardens’.

Further information on legislation may be found here.
