Under the new
Fire Safety Order, Watchacre Properties Limited was
recently fined £21,000 and one of its directors, Mr Mehmat Parlak, was
sentenced to four months imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court.
Councillor Brian Coleman AM FRSA, Chairman of the London Fire and
Emergency Planning Authority said “The London Fire Brigade works hard to
bring irresponsible companies and individuals to court, which can as
this case has shown result in a custodial sentence”.
The 8 offences, all of which were admitted, included a failure to have a
suitable and sufficient risk assessment; a failure to provide
appropriate firefighting equipment; and a failure to provide
appropriate fire detection measures.
