full job description.However, in brief: successful applicants for this full-time, permanent
role will, after appropriate induction and training, undertake a mix of functions
including some of those listed below:
- Attending customer sites to survey, install, modify, commission and
maintain their
fire detection & alarm systems and their emergency lighting systems;
- Attending unscheduled maintenance ("call-outs"), including to troubleshoot and trace faults;
- Ensuring effectiveness in a largely self-managed role with a
wide range of responsibilities;
- Assist in the preparation of reports, proposals and quotations
for any works required to bring systems up to standard; and
- Liaising with customers as required to provide a smooth and
truly first-class service.
All to the relevant British Standards (including
BS 5839 part 1 for fire alarms and
BS 5266 part 1 for emergency
lighting), manufacturers’ guidance, legislation (including the
Fire Safety Order (or, for Scotland, the
Fire (Scotland) Act,
and associated
regulations)), etc.
Inherent to the job is a high level of sales of goods and services,
upon which the successful applicants will earn commission.

essential or desirable.
In brief we’re looking, first and foremost, for
proficient, capable and broadly-experienced maintenance and
commissioning engineer, equally comfortable with fault-finding, and all
elements of installation from initial survey and design through to
handover. This should be evident from the candidate's CV which should
also ideally show relevant trade-specific training.
The candidate should be conscientious, organised, attentive to
detail, methodical and effective in all areas of their work and must
have applied this in recent largely self-managed work.
Excellent communicators
skills at all levels are also essential, ideally backed up with proven
success in obtaining customers' agreement to undertake recommendations
or sales more broadly.
The package offered is amongst the best in the trade for successful
engineers.

comprises a basic salary, supplemented by
commission. Successful candidates should relish the opportunities of
such a salary structure.
At the time of writing, the Company offers an excellent holiday package starting at 28 days, and increasing to 38 days after length of service. This holiday entitlement is inclusive of bank and public holidays.

Of course, as part of the role, the Company provides all tools and
materials required, including a fully funded well-specified Company van,
smart phone, specialist tools, etc.

There will be a relatively brief and informal period of Company induction,
followed by a more detailed introduction to the Fire Alarm & Emergency
Lighting Maintenance & Commissioning Engineer’s role.
Dependant upon the candidate's experience, training and
qualifications, and the availability of any external courses,
third-party trade (e.g. FIA, manufacturers, etc.) training may also be
provided.
Beyond this, you will be expected to increasingly and fairly quickly
work without constant direct supervision, albeit still with careful
mentoring and quality management in place.
ongoing training is also an implicit part of the role.
