This section is designed to provide a repository for the wealth of information pertaining to standards, accreditation, legislation, insurance requirements, etc. and the organisations that are responsible for them.
Under current fire-safety legislation,
Enforcing Authorities have a statutory duty1
to have regard for duly approved
Governmental Guidance.In turn, this
guidance refers to British Standards thus having the effect of
giving significant statutory significance to British Standards.
For example, the
CLG Guidance for Offices and Shops says at Section 8, a section
wholly devoted to quality assurance, that “Fire protection products and
related services should be...properly installed and maintained in
accordance with...the relevant British Standard”. Specific references to the various British Standards (e.g.
BS 5306, BS 5839,
BS 5266) are also made elsewhere in the guide.
Other governmental guides have similar text.
