The precise format of our
induction training will vary dependant upon many factors such as
geography, timing, availability of trade examinations, availability of
company resources and, not least, the particular strengths and
weaknesses of the individual candidate. Below, however, follows a fairly
typical template.
There will be a relatively brief and informal period of induction
giving an overview of the Company, your peers, your line manager, health
& safety, etc.
Additional introductions will also be made to office staff and other
business activities dependant upon location.
Following this relatively brief training, you will then typically be
introduced in some depth to the Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting
Maintenance & Commissioning Engineer’s role and how it is undertaken.
Dependant upon the candidate's experience, training and
qualifications, and the availability of any external courses (which can
be a significant factor) initial or ongoing training is very likely to
involve some or all of the following:
- FIA/BFPSA/IFEDA/BAFE FDAS Training (various modules);
- FIA/ICEL Emergency Lighting Training;
- FDAS & E/L Manufacturer-Specific Training; and/or
- Applicable BS 7671 electrical qualifications (although less
likely)
Further training will typically be a mix of in-house classroom-environment training & induction,
and accompanied ‘in the field’ training.
Potentially, this training can be anywhere in Great Britain, although it usually consists of a mix of a
time near one of our
regional centres together with time spent in the employees’ own
patch.
Dependant upon your progress in the above, you will be expected to
commence working without
further constant direct supervision.
Of course, careful mentoring and peer support will be provided
throughout this initial period of you learning your new role.
Additionally, the Company will provide a higher than normal element of
quality management to help ensure its rigorous standards are maintained
for everyone’s benefit.
Assuming you progress as expected and your quality audits demonstrate
excellence in your work, you should expect levels of close supervision to
diminish appropriately in accordance with your increasing experience. However training
is of course ongoing and there is a
currently requirement to sit refresher courses and examinations periodically, every three years.
Further training and examination requirements may develop as the trade,
the Group and its staff all develop.
