In order to minimise inconvenience and the environmental impact of first
stage interviews, and to increase flexibility on interview times, we
will often express a preference for first stage interviews to be
conducted by
video call, video conference or similar.We appreciate that
some people may not be too familiar with video calls, and that the prospect of carrying out
an interview by video can be a daunting task. This page therefore
explains a little more about this process to assist.
We can typically support video all interviews using the following video call app’s:
If there is another app you would prefer to use, please advise us and
we’ll see if we can assist.
In addition to the usual details, for interviews conducted by video
we will also typically need your video app user ID, for example:
As with all interviews, we will also need contingency contact details
in case of any issues.
In addition to the usual interview preparation, in plenty of time before
the interview, please:
- install any applicable software and updates;
- ensure that the venue, equipment, WiFi/cellular connection, etc. is suitable;
- familiarise yourself with interview good practice. For example:
- using a suitable, quiet and well-lit location;
- try and fix the in a suitable position at approximately eye
level;
- use the device in ‘landscape mode’ (that is, with the device’s
long edge uppermost);
- plain backgrounds and minimal movement work best;
- ensure that you are well illuminated; and
- ensure that your Wi-Fi signal is good in your chosen location;
and
- conduct a test video call or interview with a third party to
ensure all works satisfactorily.
In addition to the usual interview preparation, in plenty of time before
the interview, please:
Ensure that your device is suitably charged
and/or powered. Ensure, where applicable, thatthe relevant app is
started and logged in to the correct
user account. Just as with a regular interview where we would
typically ask you to arrive fifteen minutes early, pleas ensure that
you are ready, logged-in, online, etc. as above fifteen minutes
before the allotted video call time. Also, just as with
interviews-in-person, please be accepting of delays. We will of
course make contact if the delays are excessive. We will typically
video-call you at the time of the interview and telephone you in the
event of any issue.
There is
plentiful comprehensive technical support available online for all of
the above apps Vist the providers help section ort support pages for
further details. Additionally, using your favourite search engine will also unravel a
wealth of other support form third parties, user groups, forums, etc.
Don’t worry if
you can’t do the interview by video call – we’re also happy to meet up in person! Just let
us know.
