This page aims to provide
the reader with the reasons why our
service
often requires the provision of replacement washers, o-rings seals and
diaphragms.
As mentioned in the service page,
our BS EN ISO 9001:2015 certification certifies that we undertake the
service to the standards laid down in
BS 5306-3 - the main standard
applicable to the servicing of portable fire extinguishers.
The ‘basic service’
specified therein requires the mandatory replacement of seals for the
discharge horn,
hose, nozzle, valve body and hose diaphragm whenever
these components are removed. This is as per BS 5306-3, Annex D
(normative), table D.2, action number 13 of
the Standard.
The main reasons why this requirement is incorporated into the
standards are:
- replacement of such components has been considered good engineering
practice for many years.
- a failure to replace such components can lead to problems arising
from mis-compression, and excess wear.
- a failure in these components can lead to non performance, poor
performance and risk of serious injury or death to the operator.
