Below is a broad overview of BS 5306-9:2015 relating to the recharging of portable fire extinguishers. Readers are referred to the British Standard itself for full details and reminded that this is a summary only.

This is the first version of this part of the standard and was first published in February 2015, coming into effect on 31 March 2015.

Amongst other objectives, the standard sought to continue to provide a code of practice for the recharging of extinguishers, to amalgamate the previous two standards and to introduce the concept of 'verified alternatives'.

The standard is intended for use predominantly by maintenance organisation, technicians and similar parties.
