In
very broad terms, the Pressure Equipment
Regulations 1999 (“the PER”) introduced compulsory CE marking of new
extinguishers. The reader is referred to the PER
document for further details.
In connection with the PER, the CE Mark
signifies only that the unit in question meets very basic safety
requirements in connection with its pressurisation.
The reader should be absolutely clear that the CE Mark is NOT
a quality mark, merely a mark showing the unit meets certain
legislated criteria in a very narrow area - it has little bearing on the
unit’s ability to perform its function.
As always, one should always check for the presence of the usual
recognised quality marks, in this case the BAFE
mark and the BSI Kitemark.
