The
Department for Communities and Local Government (“DCLG”) was created in
May 2006 following a governmental “reshuffle” to succeed the
Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (or “ODPM”).
Additionally, the DCLG was given other responsibilities commensurate
with its then new name.Just like the ODPM
before it, one of the DCLG’s responsibilities was fire within England and
Wales and the
accompanying legislation.
Following a ‘rebranding’ exercise in August 2009, the DCLG changed its
‘brand’ name to Communities and Local Government (“CLG”).
The ‘rebranding’ attracted some controversy
due to the costs involved in dropping the “Department for” element from
its ‘brand’.
Further details about the CLG may be found here.
