Communities and Local Government (“CLG”)
is the ‘brand’ name for the UK Government’s
Department for Communities and Local Government. This department was created in
May 2006 following a governmental “reshuffle” to succeed the
Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (or “ODPM”).
Additionally, the new department was given other responsibilities commensurate
with its new name.Just like the ODPM
before it, “Communities and Local Government sets policy on...fire and
rescue”, Primarily in England and Wales, and is also responsible for the
legislation so arising.
Communities and Local Government (“CLG”)
as a ‘brand’ was established in August 2009.
Previously, the branding reflected the Department’s full name, i.e. the
Department for Communities and Local
Government (“DCLG”)). The ‘rebranding’
attracted some controversy due to the costs involved in dropping the
“Department for” element from its ‘brand’.
The CLG’s “Fire safety law and guidance documents for business” section for businesses may be
found
here.
More general information on the CLG may be found on
their homepage.
