The Department
of Trade & Industry (“DTI”) has a wide remit including responsibility
for trade, business, employees and science. Accordingly, this department
has a fairly significant impact on the issue of fire, fire protection
and the equipment used for such purposes. For example, the DTI was
largely responsible for the formation of BSI,
UKAS and the subsequent quality management
systems and British Standards that have
followed.
Additionally, it is the DTI that is largely responsible for the
various pressure equipment legislation (e.g. the
PER and the PSSR) that has such an impact in
this area.
More general information on the DTI may be found on
their homepage.
