 The Fire Extinguishing Trades Association (“FETA”)
merged with the
British Fire Protection Systems Association (“BFPSA”) and the
Fire Industry Confederation (“FIC”) on 1st April
2007 to form a single large trade association, the
Fire Industry Association (“FIA”).Formerly, FETA was “the Trade Association of manufacturers and maintainers of portable fire fighting equipment… Established in 1916 it
[was] a non-profit making organisation funded by membership subscription”

FETA’s objective was to “uphold and enhance the professional status of the Fire Protection Industry by encouraging the adoption of improved standards for product, service and quality management systems and promoting greater use of high quality products and services to the benefit of all” (taken from their profile on their website).
FETA was a member of the confederation FIC.
In selecting a FETA member, you were ensured that the business must abide by the ethos of FETA’s Leadership Statement. You are referred to the full text for full details, but in summary, this ensures that they:
- Conduct all activities with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity.
- Work in accordance with recognised Standards.
- Be independent UKAS-accredited third party certified (normally to BS EN ISO 9001).
- Comply with the British Codes of Advertising and Sales Promotion.
- Maintain product and public liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2M.
- Recognise customers’ statutory rights.
- Provide suitable guarantees on all new equipment.
- Undertake to remedy faults within seven days of notification by the customer.
- Undertake maintenance in accordance with the appropriate British Standard and
manufacturers’ recommendations and guarantee repairs and spare parts for a
minimum of one year.
- Deal with complaints of whatever nature speedily and sympathetically, taking
decisive action if justification is established.
- Ensure that all correspondence including quotations, invoices and terms and
conditions of contract is clear and unambiguous, including additional costs such
as delivery charges or installation and commissioning costs.
- Supply equipment ready for operation.
- Abide by the FETA complaints procedure (as contained in FETA’s Leadership Statement).
